When did television start to become so popular? When was its turning point?
After inventing the television, where, when, what, why, or how did television start to become popular? Where was its turning point that made Television so popular nowadays?
Television was initially introduced in 1949 but few people owned one at first. It was pretty expensive. There was NBC and CBS for TV channels. TV became increasing popular because it was entertainment without going off to a theatre for movies. As TV became more popular, it also became more affordable. People would hear about this new thing called television through word of mouth, radio and newspaper. Everybody liked the idea of being entertained and still be able to stay at home. By the 1960s most families had a TV set in their living rooms. The turning point came because people like to be entertained at home.

IN the 1950s it was extremely popular. There were shows such as Milton Berle that commanded so much attention and audience. Then in the 1970s Monday Night Football was so popular that restaurants would close, as they were not getting any business.
There were only 11 or 12 channels back then, so people has less of a choice than today.
But, it was very popular then, there were no DVDs, TIBO. None of the stuff to see a show at another time or at your convenience.

In the late 50’s/early 60’s when a young mother took her son to the Dr, she was told to get a TV in the house. He noted that the other kids would be watching TV and she didn’t want him to not be a part of the culture as it would benefit him. He told her to let him watch as much as possible.True story. That train of thought has changed but it’s just an anecdote to give you an idea of the times.
