It was done to free up space in the Electromagnetic spectrum. Digital television broadcast typically uses about 1/6 of the bandwidth needed to broadcast a comparable Analog signal. The electromagnetic spectrum is considered a limited natural resource and therefore regulated by the government. The switch to digital was done for efficiency and to allow space formerly used by Television broadcasts to be sold off to other types of wireless communication companies.

Does a tv need a USB port to connect to your computer so to have your computer through your tv screen? I dont think it does, not a USB anyway.

You need headphone connection on tv and comp for sound, i think.
and
a lead to go to and from your tv and comp which looks like a minature scart socket on tv and comp and thats it, i think. but double check at curries or like.
